Spinal Surgery

Spinal surgery encompasses various procedures aimed at treating conditions affecting the spine.
Paediatric spinal surgery addresses spinal conditions in children and young people, primarily focusing on scoliosis and other spinal deformities.
Adult spinal surgery involves a range of procedures aimed at addressing specific spinal conditions.
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, often with an element of rotation. It can develop in childhood, during the adolescent growth spurt.
Spinal deformity surgery involves a range of procedures designed to improve the alignment, balance, and stability of the spine.
Spinal fusion permanently connects two or more vertebrae to stop abnormal movement that can cause pain or pressure on nerves.
Lumbar decompression surgery aims to create more space around the spinal nerves in the lower back.

How do I book a consultation?

Use the form on this page, call 07344 666787, or email the practice. Most patients are seen within a few days. A GP referral is helpful but not always required for private care.

Yes. Mr Munigangaiah is recognised by the major UK insurers. Patients are advised to confirm their level of cover and obtain an authorisation number from their insurer before attending. Self-pay patients are equally welcome.

An initial consultation is £275 and includes a full history, examination, review of any existing imaging and a written summary. Follow-up appointments are £175. Any scans or procedures are quoted separately before they are arranged.

Private consultations are held at the Ludlow Unit (RJAH, Gobowen, Oswestry SY10 7AG) and Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital (Longden Road, Shrewsbury SY3 9DP). Free on-site parking is available at both hospital sites.

No. Most spinal conditions are managed without an operation. Physiotherapy, targeted injections and bracing are considered first, and surgery is discussed only where non-surgical care is unlikely to help.

Yes. Paediatric spinal surgery is a core part of the practice, and Mr Munigangaiah has been a consultant at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital since 2016.

Not always for private care, though a referral is helpful because it gives useful background. Some insurers do require one before they will authorise treatment, so it is worth checking with them first.

Any previous scans or reports, a list of your current medication, and details of treatment you have already tried. You are welcome to bring a relative or friend.
